Protein-based hydrogels are soft, hydrated materials formed through networks of interacting proteins. They combine the programmability of biological molecules with the mechanical versatility of soft matter. Our lab studies how protein sequence, structure, and environmental conditions determine when and how these gels form. We focus on understanding how microscopic interactions translate into macroscopic properties such as elasticity, stability, and responsiveness. By modeling gel formation and evolution, we aim to identify tunable design parameters for protein-based materials. This work supports applications ranging from biomaterials to responsive and adaptive soft matter systems.
